Mick Mulvaney, former chief of staff to the White House, endorsed Nancy Mace as South Carolina’s Representative over her Republican primary challenger, backed by former President Trump.

In a Monday press release Mace stated that she had been given Mulvaney’s endorsement. The former Trump White House chief supported Mace as a “proven fiscally conservative leader” for South Carolina and Lowcountry.

Mulvaney stated that “Getting things done in Washington can be difficult and it doesn’t have to become a nasty business – especially when Members Congress put constituents’ needs above partisan politics.” “Congresswoman Mace’s attendance at over 1,000 meetings in the district during her first year of office is a sign that she is dedicated to the Lowcountry.

He said, “Her voting record in favor of smaller government and lower taxes is extraordinary.” She works tirelessly to make things happen in Congress, which is refreshing. She has my full support.”

Mulvaney was a former South Carolina congressman who Mace said had “served his nation and our state with distinction & honor”.

He is a fiscal conservative leader. He understands how hard it is to flip a seat, and then keep it,” Mace stated in the . “Mick knows that putting constituents first can sometimes mean bucking the party line, and that principles matter.

She continued, “Mick has always stood up to do the right things, he’s an excellent example of what conservative leadership looks in South Carolina.”

In a video posted earlier in the month, Mace responded to Trump’s endorsement for Katie Arrington, her primary rival, by pushing back.

“I can recall being one of the first supporters of President Trump in 2015, when he announced his candidacy. In 2016, I actually worked on the campaign. “I worked in seven states to get him elected,” Mace stated in a video in front Trump Tower in New York City.

Mace stated, “I supported him again for 2020 because of policies that I believed in.” He brought back American jobs. He reduced our taxes…he made America more secure and took on China directly.

Trump called Mace “an absolutely horrible candidate” while endorsing Arrington that week. Mace, the former president claimed, was not at all representative of Republican Party. She has been extremely disloyal.”

In her video, Mace stated that “I won the seat back for Republicans” and took aim at Arrington. She said, “If your goal is to lose this seat again in the midterm elections cycle to Democrats then my opponent has more than enough qualifications to do that.”

Mulvaney and Trump’s rival endorsements reveal a clear divide between Trump and his ex-White House chief.

Democrats have more ammunition to create a narrative of Republican dissonance, as momentum builds for a red wave ahead of the 2022 midterm election.

This also happens after Republicans in Virginia won back three of the top statewide seats from Democrats with Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who is leading the ticket, has a big-tent approach and a Trump endorsement.

Many political commentators have pointed out that the Virginia elections were a sign of a rise in Republican election turnout in November.
