It’s the weekend of civil servants. On Saturday and Sunday, 160,134 candidates will take exams to aspire to 27,509 places in the General Administration of the State. Exams that will take place in 21 provinces in an extraordinary call to recover the public employment offers corresponding to the years 2020, 2021 and 2022, which were delayed in terms of completion for various reasons, including the pandemic.
A total of 25,421 free shift and internal promotion positions are offered, to which 2,088 more disability shifts are added. Most of the places are intended for the general administrative body, followed by the civil administration body and the auxiliary general body. In addition, ICT, IT technicians and assistants from the State Administration are also included. There are twelve selection processes that start on Saturday and Sunday with the examinations, and which, for those who pass them, will later continue with the competition phase.
By far the largest number of applicants is concentrated in Madrid, with 44,017, more than 25% of the total, well above the other cities. With more than 10,000 opponents are Seville and Valladolid, and below Valencia, Malaga, Granada, Las Palmas, Barcelona (5,583) and Alicante. The Administration will deploy 2,000 people to facilitate the completion of the exams, most of them on Sunday 17 September.
In this call, in the free access modality, the places most in demand are those corresponding to the general administrative body, with 66,968 applicants for 4,333 positions; followed by the auxiliary general body (49,643 opponents for 1,061 places); and the management of the civil administration (20,364 for 2,716 positions). In internal promotion, the greatest demand is for the general administrative body, with 6,604 applicants.
This call has more places than the previous ones, because it recovers those corresponding to three years. If compared to the public employment offer in 2019, at that time 123,000 candidates applied for 10,200 places. This time there are nearly three times as many places up for grabs.
For the Ministry of Finance, the aim is to “attract talent” to the Administration and speed up the selection processes. In addition, they also indicate that to facilitate access, the opposition processes will be decentralized, with exams in 21 provinces and using a web platform for exercises that include a public reading in front of a court. They also add that the aim is to recover the levels of public employment lost in previous years, correct workforce deficits and facilitate their rejuvenation.
In the convocations of recent years, the most common profile of the opponent is drawn as a woman and in her thirties. There are almost twice as many women as men as applicants, except in the technological areas, and by age, the opponents range from 31 to 38 years old depending on the various areas.
