The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and the unions UGT, CCOO and CSIF have signed this Thursday an agreement on public service that will be the roadmap to negotiate improvements in the conditions of public employees dependent on the Consell. The pact lays the foundations, with a calendar and a monitoring commission, for the issues that will be negotiated in the coming months, such as the implementation of the 35-hour day, the application of teleworking, the fight against the wage gap or against temporary employment or workplace harassment.

Both the union representatives present and the head of the Consell have expressed their satisfaction at having reached this consensus. “We started on a path, but the difficult part comes now,” Mazón illustrated. The unions have pointed out that they will be vigilant that the deadlines are met and have reiterated that what was signed this Thursday at the Palau de la Generalitat “is not a blank check.”

A warning that the Valencian president has internalized – “I absolutely agree” -, who in turn has asked for “co-responsibility” to advance the agreements. Mazón has publicly expressed his commitment to improving the conditions that public workers need. These agreements must affect both health and educational personnel, the Administration of the Generalitat and the Administration of Justice that depends on the Valencian Government.

It will not be easy, but the truth is that, and this has been recognized by the unions, the environment of dialogue that has allowed this first agreement that lays the foundations for future negotiations is positive. We will have to see what happens when the workers’ demands come to fruition.
