The Valencian president, Carlos, dismissed yesterday, at the request of the Minister of Justice and the Interior, Elisa Núñez (Vox), the undersecretary of this department, Luis Manuel Martín Domínguez, also from the Abascal party, when it became known who was convicted of gender-based violence in 2011 in a compliance sentence. The decision was adopted by the Council of the Generalitat Valenciana in an emergency plenary session.
The Valencian spokeswoman, Ruth Merino, emphasized that the impeachment had taken place due to “an absolute failure of trust on the part of the Minister of Justice, since she was not aware of these serious facts”. In addition, he emphasized that “action has been taken quickly because it is a loss of confidence on the part of the person who had appointed this high position”. Elisa Núñez, for her part, explained that she became aware of the conviction for gender violence yesterday morning. He then sent a letter to the president of the Generalitat to inform him of the situation.
Martín was appointed undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior on July 27. He was a trusted person of Vox, a party that, following the pact with the PP, manages the vice-presidency of the Valencian Executive, Ministry of Culture, and the portfolios of Justice and Interior and Agriculture.
Before the autonomous and local elections on 28-M it was known that Vox’s candidate for the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Flores, professor of Constitutional Law, had been convicted more than twenty years ago for psychological violence against his wife. After the pact of the PP of Mazón with Vox for the Government of the Generalitat Valenciana, Flores renounced his act of regional deputy and presented himself as number one of his party for Valencia in Congress on 23-J.
When they asked the Minister of Justice about the difference between the sentence of Carlos Flores and the latter case and about the Council’s consistency in the two cases, the Minister of Justice defended that it had acted “with consistency, in the framework of the government pact” between the PP and Vox. “Consequently, as soon as I became aware of it, I sent it to the president by letter and asked for his dismissal”, he added.
