“The public universities will not be closed”, said yesterday the spokesperson of the Casa Rosada, Manuel Adorni, after the successful demonstration that brought together half a million people in the center of Buenos Aires on Tuesday in defense of the universities and public education and against the state cuts promoted by the Argentinian president, the far-right Javier Milei. The photo reflects the massive attendance in Plaza de Mayo, in front of the facade of Buenos Aires Cathedral. Milei made a speech on Monday bragging about his “economic miracle” – he said – because Argentina has registered three months without a fiscal deficit, something not seen for 16 years. In return, the cuts and the loss of purchasing power of Argentines have raised poverty eight points this year and it already rises to 60%.
