The unexpected death of Marta Chávarri, on Friday, from a cerebral infarction, has left her family devastated and bewildered. Álvaro Falcó, his only child, has gone from the immense joy of becoming a father for the first time, with the birth of Philippa, to the sadness of losing his mother, at the age of 62, in just over a month. And so it was reflected in his gaze, at the funeral home in La Paz, in Tres Cantos, where yesterday a mass was celebrated before proceeding to cremate her. “We are devastated”, was the only thing he could say to the media.

In October 2020, the Marquis of Cubas already lost his father, Fernando Falcó, but the pandemic did not allow him to say goodbye as he would have liked. That’s why yesterday Álvaro, always with his wife Isabelle Junot, was accompanied by relatives and friends, who wanted to say their last goodbye to Marta Chávarri, a woman who marked an era.

Isabel and María Chávarri, her sisters, were very affected and could barely contain their tears: “She was the best, the only one. There was no one like her”, said very excited María, who many confused with her sister due to her great physical resemblance. At the exit she carried a small bouquet of white flowers.

Manolo and Xandra Falcó, Álvaro’s cousins, who just two weeks ago celebrated Tamara’s wedding with Íñigo Onieva, one of the big absentees because he was in South Africa, on their honeymoon, passed by the funeral home. His brother Manolo said he regretted not being able to arrive in time to accompany Álvaro, his favorite cousin.

Natalia Figueroa, Marta’s aunt, was also very affected, and who was always very close to her, and her siblings, since they lost their mother – Matilde, Natalia’s sister – when they were small. María Zurita, Cary Lapique, Ana Gamazo, Ana García Siñeriz, Veva Fernández Longoria, Alonso Aznar, Nicolás Vallejo-Nágera, Carmen Lomana, Pascua Ortega, Roberto Torretta or Gelete Nieto, were also absent from their friend’s funeral.
