Now that Kevin Costner, 68, was touching the sky with his fingers again with the Yellowstone series, his family life is suffering a severe setback. His wife, Christine Baumgartner, has asked him for a divorce after eighteen years of marriage. According to TMZ, the 49-year-old designer has alluded to irreconcilable differences. The couple have three children, Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.

The representative of the protagonist of Dances with Wolves has confirmed the news to People magazine. “With great sadness, circumstances beyond his control have caused Mr. Costner to participate in an action for the dissolution of the marriage,” says the statement. “We ask that their privacy, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected while they are going through this difficult time,” adds the note.

Although the reasons for the separation have not been revealed, some rumors circulating in Hollywood suggest that Christine would have already asked the actor to leave Yellowstone because he was working too much and was away from home for a long time. But far from attending to his request, Costner is currently fully immersed in the filming, in Utah, of his fourth project as a director. It is about the film Horizon, in which he also stars, in addition to being a co-writer and investor. The project is very ambitious, as the plan is to shoot this film, which will last three hours, and then three more sequels with the same length. Once the four films featuring around 170 characters have hit theaters, the plan is to re-edit them to create a series with 42-minute episodes. It’s clear that Costner is quite busy.

This is the second marriage for the actor, who was already married for 16 years to his first wife, Cindy Silva, with whom he had three children, Annie, 39, Lily, 36, Joe, 35. The couple divorced in 1994. Four years later he began dating Christine Baumgartner. She was 24 years old, and he, 43. Despite the fact that the actor at that time was already the father of a large family – he had a fourth child, Liam, 27, from a fleeting relationship with the journalist Bridget Rooney -, the designer made it a condition, to continue the relationship, to have children. They dated for six years before Christine gave him an ultimatum. “Fear prevented me from marrying Christine. She wanted a child and I was afraid I couldn’t be a good father. But one day I woke up and thought ‘am I going to lose a beautiful woman, who is ready to be with me until my last breath, because I’m afraid to say yes to a boy?’ That’s what happened. Sometimes you learn that the thing you fear the most will save your life,” Costner confessed in 2018 to Closer. They married in 2004 in a lavish ceremony at the actor’s country house in Aspen. Three children have been born from this union. During these years, not much has been lavished on red carpets due to Costner’s interest in preserving his privacy.
