Jordi Pujol reiterates his support for Puigdemont and Junts at the closing of the electoral campaign

24 hours before the start of the electoral campaign, former president Jordi Pujol made public his support for the candidacy of Carles Puigdemont and Junts in an event in Martorell together with the former mayor of that town, Salvador Esteve.

This Friday, two hours before the campaign officially ends, the former founding president of Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC) has reiterated his support for Puigdemont and the Junts per Catalunya project, in a video shared on the networks by former councilor Quim Forn.

In the images, the former Catalan president has said that it is time “to recover the spirit, the idea and the will that for many years propelled the progress of Catalonia, the political, social and economic progress.”

“It is at this final moment of the campaign when it is time to make decisions,” he considered, and for this reason he has once again asked for support “for the candidacy of Junts and Puigdemont.” “I say it with complete conviction,” concluded the former CDC leader.

Pujol’s gesture has been clearly reciprocated in this campaign by Puigdemont himself and also by other candidates who have spoken on the Argelers stage, in the rallies, in which his legacy has been openly claimed.

Puigdemont himself expressed himself in these terms at a press conference organized by the Agència Catalana de Notícies (ACN) a few days ago. “I was a member of Convergència since 1983 and I did not leave until the PDECat was created. I feel very represented by what Convergència did for Catalunya. I remember where we came from and what the Pujol governments did to lift the country and give national character to the policies, some of them pioneering, such as equality of people, the environment, the health model, the linguistic immersion model and asking for the transfer of prisons or traffic powers, the abolition of the figure of civil governors…”, assured the former president. “I feel represented by that policy that raised Catalonia and brought it out of the darkness of Francoism,” added the leader, who has been compared in some rallies with his predecessor for some expressions.

Furthermore, in the campaign slogans a thread of continuity between CDC and Junts can also be traced unequivocally, with slogans such as “Let’s lift up Catalunya” or “Catalunya needs to be respected.”
