Jordi Pujol, on whether he can benefit from the amnesty: "I have been the target of people who have had a hostile attitude"

The former president of the Generalitat Jordi Pujol has reflected on the possibility of benefiting from an amnesty law, after ensuring that he has been “the target of people who have had a hostile attitude”, and not just from one side, according to the former convergent leader. .

Pujol did not want to go too far into the issue of his protection in the bill, and limited himself to highlighting that he was not only under the scrutiny of leaders of the PP and the PSOE: “I don’t want to go into the subject too much, because this comes from afar”. Even so, in an interview with Catalunya Rádio, the former president has claimed the amnesty as “necessary for harmony” and has celebrated that the measure has been proposed “as broad as possible.”

Likewise, the founder of Convergència has expressed surprise at the position contrary to the bill expressed by the former president of the government Felipe González. “It surprises me and makes me feel bad,” noted Pujol, who has acknowledged that he has always had and has “a great appreciation of González” for his role during the transition.

“The negotiating attitude is good,” stressed the former president, after reflecting on the current political situation and the agreements between the pro-independence forces and the PSOE: “I think the agreement that means a small or large improvement is good,” the convergent expressed. who has agreed that Catalonia needs “something more than what it seems that from the Spanish point of view they want to give us”,

Even so, Pujol has stressed that it must be “negotiated as a rule” and has stated that the “all or nothing” approach, in his opinion, “leads nowhere.” “We cannot think; ‘Let them say what they want in Madrid,’ the former president stressed, “just as we cannot say it about Europe or the major world currents.” “We are very little, but everything that happens in the world influences us,” recalled Pujol, who warned that “we have to take it into account, because otherwise they will pass over us.”

The former president has also praised Sánchez, whom he described as “very skillful” after admitting that “maneuvering within Spain requires intelligence.”

On the other hand, Pujol has highlighted the positive results, in his opinion, of his negotiations during his 23 years of presidency of the Generalitat with the parties of the Spanish government, ensuring that although “in Spain there is the idea that Catalonia gets in the way a little, There are people capable of understanding,” and that “sometimes there are things that we would not have been able to do if it were not for the opposition.” “We alone would not have been able to get this far,” said the convergent.

Pujol has also focused on the “danger” that in his opinion Catalan identity suffers, especially in the area of ??language; “I do not deny that there is a concern at an institutional level, but at this moment, it is not very clear to me to react to it effectively,” commented Pujol, after pointing out that, despite the fact that the identity of a people does not only lie in the language , in the case of Catalonia, “the language in our case is decisive.”

At 93 years old, the former Catalan president recalled that at the time, members of the PP and the PSOE predicted the decomposition of the Catalan identity, but he stressed that “Catalonia has progressed substantially” and that in his opinion, it comes of knowledge of Catalan society. “We must know what the country is like, what it has and what it does not have,” because, as Pujol has stated, “you cannot do politics without knowing history or knowing reality.”

“It is not just a question of money, and it is not only a question of skills,” stated the nationalist politician. “Our identity is threatened,” the former president concluded, but not before remembering the values ??of Joan B. Culla, who died yesterday, who he highlighted was a “Catalanist and deeply country” person, and a “defender of Catalonia as well as good person”.
