Christmas time is familietid.
How you might be thinking, but for many danes is christmas eve at work.
John Lucas, who is a receptionist and SoMe-responsible in Ruth’s Hotel in Skagen, takes care in the year of the julegæster rather than to celebrate the festive season.
– I’ve even asked about it. Here is christmas as it should be, and not as it should be. For many, christmas is unfortunately filled with everything you need, although you might not like, he says.

Many of the guests who choose to spend christmas eve in the historic seaside resort, has no children or the children is holding christmas with the other parent or have flown the nest. The same is true for Jan, who has a nephew and niece that he keeps very much of.
– But they are so good, that uncle John is in a relationship with an old lady, who requires a lot of time. And she’s called Ruth, he says with a twinkle in his eye.

Every two years he is working, and every second year he keeps christmas with his brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew. In the year he takes home to his family between christmas and new year instead.
– So I get plenty of christmas atmosphere, it’s just not right the 24. And it makes me not track. The date is not so important for me, he strikes fast.
at the same time, there is also quite a special atmosphere at the hotel during christmas.
– I really like to be a part of. We are enjoying extra on the guests, and us who work here, also enjoyed the extra about with good food and wine, he says.

The last 11 years, Jan has spent most of his waking hours at the hotel, and before that he worked for a number of years in England and the UNITED states.
I missed the Danish christmas in the ten years I have lived abroad, so for me it need not just be the big table with the roasted potatoes at 18 o’clock.
When he encounters on the job on christmas eve, there are not many tasks left to solve behind the counter.
