How much we have learned about it security in our digital home? And what the authorities have actually done to make clear requirements to those who produce all of the sought after gadgets? After several years of debate and revelations, the answer is a disappointing: very little.
in the united kingdom, Which?, there is a sister organisation to the Consumer council Think, just made a comprehensive analysis, which shows that, worldwide, continue to exist a few millions of webcams, as hackers can easily get access to.
And a part of them – perhaps more than 1000 – are set up on addresses in Denmark.
– I think it is some violent talk.
And this is crazy, so many products on the market are outside the control of the authorities, and without that consumers can figure out anything, says Anette Høyrup, there is seniorjurist of the Consumer council Think, for the Extra Magazine.

the Council put in last week a campaign to get Danish consumers to be more critical when buying all kinds of gadgets, which have contact to the network.
the Problem is that, if for example a bad webcamera unencrypted sends the code to your wi-fi network ’through the air’, so hackers can get a hold of it and abuse your network to other and worse things than to look at the camera.
– So are you inside the engine room with the people.
– Therefore, you must also have made you a unique password within the camera or other cool things for the home are taken into use, says the council from Anette Høyrup.
It is also important to only buy units that you can later update and close security holes in. And then you have to examine what data the company behind the product gathers together, and how they are used.
Watchdog Avoid lurere: Protect your cameras
Just the manufacturers of the insecure cameras have, according to the Consumer council Think a big responsibility. But it has the legislators and the authorities in the EU and at home also.
– I have just written to the Danish safety technology authority.
– The corresponding products are covered by their work, but only when the product doing harm to something else. So if it breaks in the fire, they must be there. Otherwise, they are not, explains Anette Høyrup.
And besides the GDPR-the rules protect consumers in the day not by the purchase of internetforbundne devices.

Need better legislation
