Iglesias, first minister who agrees to appear in the Parliament's Pegasus commission

The former vice president of the Government Pablo Iglesias will appear this Friday in the Parliament commission that investigates the Pegasus case on the espionage of pro-independence politicians, activists and social representatives through this spyware program, as parliamentary sources have informed this newspaper. The appearance of the former vice president with Pedro Sánchez, which will be done by videoconference, occurs after the long list of refusals to appear received by the commission of those who were officials of the Executive during the years in which espionage is framed, in the period 2017-2020.

The investigation commission had also summoned for this Friday Juan Jesús Torres, general secretary of Digital Administration in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Luis Jiménez Múñoz, deputy director of the National Cryptological Center, and Ivan Redondo, who was director of Pedro Sánchez’s cabinet. The three have excused attendance based on the opinions of the Council of State, which indicate that they do not have the obligation to be accountable to the Parliament. Along these lines, and in previous requests made by the Catalan commission, five ministers with responsibilities at the time also excused themselves.

Yes, Pablo Iglesias will do so at a time when Congress has also approved setting up a commission of inquiry in this regard, along with that of Operation Catalunya. And in the midst of new revelations about Operation Catalunya with respect to the Government of Mariano Rajoy.
