Greta Thunbergs father says in an interview with the BBC that he thought it was a bad idea, that his daughter went in front in the fight against climate change, and that today he is worried about the ‘hatred’, as she meets.
– I did not support her decision to go out of school to be klimaaktivist, says Svante Thunberg on his 16-year-old daughter in an interview.
Millions of people have been inspired by the young Swedish klimaaktivist, and in a BBC radio program Monday said the well-known british environmental and naturforkæmper David Attenborough to her that her work ‘has woken up the world’ in relation to the problem of climate change.
Greta Thunberg spoke with David Attenborough over Skype from his home in Stockholm, and she said that he inspired her activism.
According to David Attenborough has Greta Thunberg ‘achieved results, as many of us who have worked with the problems in 20 years, not have been able to’.
He added that the 16-year-old swede was ‘the only reason’ that climate change was a key topic in the recent british parliamentary elections.
Svante Thunberg said his daughter had struggled with depression for three or four years before she began her skolestrejke, which aroused international attention.
She stopped speaking, and she stopped to go to school. It was the worst nightmare for a parent, en Gretha eventually refuse to eat, he tells on the radio show.
to help her daughter began Svante Thunberg to spend more time at home with her and her younger sister Beata.
Gretas mother, Malena Ernman, who is an opera singer and former contestant in The eurovision Song Contest, cancelled contracts, so the whole family could be together.
the Family also sought the help of doctors, says Svante Thunberg.
He tells, that her daughter four years ago was diagnosed with Asperger’s – a form of autism. She explains that this makes her “able to see things from the outside’.
As a very active human rights activist has Greta accused her parents to be ‘great pretenders’, says the father.
– If the human rights defender in actively, she asks.
He adds that Greta has been energy that the parents have changed their behaviour, when it comes to climate and the environment – for example, that the mother no longer travel by plane.
the Father is, however, concerned about the lot of ‘fake news’ and the stories that people find on about his daughter, and the hatred that it creates.
– But she does critique the uncommon good. I honestly don’t how she does it. But she laughs most of the time. She finds it very amusing.
