IN the DR programme followed the viewers the couple’s reflections about the pregnancy, the thoughts, they did care about keeping all three children, as well as the challenges that came with the sudden to get three children at the same time, while they also have to take care of their son, who came into the world a few years earlier.

This proposal is about the extended maternity leave for families who get twins or triplets. It seems totally incomprehensible and inconceivable, that in Denmark do not get extra maternity leave, when you get twins or triplets – especially when you’ve even tried the trip. There is of course much more work with two or three babies at the same time than just a single, ” says Anders Straarup to the Extra Blade.
– In Sweden and Norway, they have much better conditions, and we believe that Denmark needs to get on the track and get the wave. Therefore, we believe that trillingefamilier should have the opportunity, that both parents are home with the children until they are a year. It will say that we suggest 12 months ‘additional maternity leave to trillingefamilier and six months’ additional maternity leave to tvillingefamilier, so both parents can be home in a half a year, says Maria Pacific Jørstad.

According to Maria Pacific Jørstad and Anders Straarup had they are well placed to be flexible in relation to their three children, despite the Danish barselsregler. It is, according to the couple, far from all, have the freedom.

– It was completely unthinkable that I should start to work after 14 days, as barselssystemet put up to. It would have meant that Mary had to be alone with three small children, while she herself had the enormously bad after a extraordinary and violent pregnancy, as she are still struggling with, and as did, that she was bedridden for a long time. Soon she must for example also through a major surgery for damaged abdominal muscles. It had just not been possible, that she was alone the first time with three children, says Anders Straarup.
– So we have been completely dependent on, that we both have been working freelance and have been able to flex and be more at home than other. But it is not everyone who has the opportunity. I do not understand all, how those who have a solid 8-16 job doing it, and therefore is barselsreglerne just not good enough here in Denmark, says Maria Pacific Jørstad on.

Why cry now the pair is also sounding the alarm.
– I think it is too bad. If you have three children at different times, you get three times the maternity, but if you get them at the same time, is it the same as a child. It makes no sense, not even economically. If I had born them at different times, I had gotten three times as much maternity and also many more money between hands, ” she says, and continues:
– If barselsreglerne had been different, it had also meant, that we had not been need to use all our savings. I had a savings that we could draw on. It was away in may. If you are forced to go home and be away when it is not covered by maternity leave, it is hard – also for the economy, and we have really been able to notice, says Maria Pacific Jørstad.

In Sweden there are to twins a year and four months of maternity leave in the normal rate, which is slightly higher than the Danish rate, then six months at a low rate. For triplets, there is a year and ten months at the normal rate, then six months at the low rate, and it is precisely such rates, the pair hope will be current in Denmark.
– We have actually at one time strongly considered to move to Norway, where Maria comes from. But we could not take it all in, while Maria was pregnant. Therefore, we hope really we get enough signatures, it will be taken up in the Parliament, so you can think more of the here families. It comes not to get us even to the good, but we hope that it can help other families who are in the same situation as us. It is really important because there is a risk that the parents are mentally down, and that there is not enough time for the kids, ” says Anders Straarup and stresses that they have so far received a lot of positive feedback on the borgerforslaget.
