The power of women, revered as goddesses and feared as demons, across different cultures and eras; an intimate and unknown portrait of filmmaker Luis García Berlanga that promises never-told stories of both his work and his life; the relationships between art and nature or the landing -literally: it is currently crossing the Atlantic inside two containers- of the largest dinosaur ever reported, it comes from Patagonia and is 30 meters long…!
Under the motto Let’s grow in culture, the La Caixa Foundation is launching a season that, from art and science, wants to connect with the concerns of today’s world through 34 shows, of which 10 are premieres, which they will run through the network of CaixaForum and CosmoCaixa centres. Many have already been seen (Elisa Durán, deputy general director of the Foundation, is confident that they will close this 2023 with 4.5 million visitors) and in the coming months they will be moving around the different headquarters. All are own productions or co-productions with major centers such as the British, the Pompidou, the Cinémathèque Française or the Prado, whose director, Miguel Falomir, recalled yesterday that thanks to this alliance the art gallery has managed to have a presence throughout Spain. And he announced two future projects: botany in the works of the Prado and Rubens.
“Art and nature”
A fruitful relationship
From surrealism to the present day, many artists have been attracted by the forms of nature, inspiring masterpieces by Dalí, Kandinski, Miró, Le Corbusier or Paul Klee. The Art and Nature exhibition (from September 28 at CaixaForum Barcelona) reviews this fruitful relationship through 80 pieces from the Pompidou Center (painting, photography, film and design) and incorporates the vision of contemporary creators (Jeremy Deller, Neri Oxman…) that warn of the threats hovering over the planet. He will then go to Madrid and Zaragoza.
“Top secret”
One of the spies
James Bond, Edward Snowden, Mata Hari, Hedy Lamarr… are some of the protagonists of Top secret. Cinema and espionage, an exhibition that delves into the fruitful relationship between the two worlds through 270 pieces. Currently in Madrid – until October 22nd -, the exhibition co-organized with the Cinémathèque Française will arrive in Barcelona on March 17th.
“Revered and feared”
They have power
Goddesses, saints, demons, witches, rebels, mothers… Revered and feared. Feminine power in art and beliefs is an ambitious exhibition that reflects on the era of
“Horizon and limit”
Lost in the landscape
The way in which the artistic landscape has determined our perception of nature is the starting point of Horizon and limit. Visions of the landscape, which will arrive in Barcelona in April. The works are part of the La Caixa Foundation Contemporary Art Collection and bear the signature of Tacita Dean, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Andreas Gursky, Joan Fontcuberta, Joan Hernández Pijoan, Miquel Barceló or Patricia Dauder.
“Interior Berlanga”
The man and the filmmaker stand in front of the camera
Brilliant director and screenwriter, Luis García Berlanga (Valencia, 1921-Madrid, 2010) was also one of the best chroniclers of Spain’s recent past. The author of films such as ¡ will now be the protagonist of Interior Berlanga (from July 16 to November 3), which will reveal previously unseen aspects of both his work and his life. The premiere will take place in March in Valencia and will bring to light the 72 so far never opened boxes that the filmmaker left at his home. Inside, 56 unpublished scripts, teenage love letters, poems, reflections on the war… “It’s a very intimate Berlanga and different from what is known”, according to his son, the cook and also filmmaker José Luis García Berlanga.
“Dinosaurs of Patagonia”
The biggest creature on the planet
Called Patagothian mayorum, it was discovered by chance by a farmer and is the largest dinosaur known to date. Star of the season at CosmoCaixa (from October 25 to June 2), he will not be alone. Alongside the enormous creature that lived 100 million years ago, visitors will be able to discover twelve different species, including the only carnivorous dinosaur. The exhibition has been conceived and produced with the Paleontological Museum Egidio Feruglio.
