If the loss of the absolute majority had to take its toll on Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the absolute majority achieved by the PP in Galicia must be read as a key to the consolidation of the popular leader. It was the expression repeated yesterday at the headquarters of the PP, where confidence in the result was maintained from the first hour, despite the experience of July, when the election night put an end to the possibilities of being president of the central government, that Núñez Feijóo had to play pushed by the polls.

Prudence was the tonic throughout the day and the first hours of the scrutiny, and only when the count already made clear the absolute majority of the PP did the popular people dare to sing victory. It was then that Feijóo and Alfonso Rueda, in the presence of their teams, held a video conference in which they could not hide their satisfaction.

Despite everything, the order of restraint was clear, “you need to know how to win”, when the national leadership appeared in front of the media at the headquarters of the PP, on Calle Génova. It was Cuca Gamarra, Feijóo is reserved for Tuesday, when there will be a national executive committee, after attending today the meeting held by the PP of Galicia.

No one will be able to question the leadership of Feijóo, who has not only managed to retain the absolute majority for the PP, for the fifth time in a row, despite the fact that he has gone to Madrid, but it is after a campaign with everything on the contrary, to which one must add one’s own errors.

But, if one thing that has raised the morale of the PP, with the absolute majority achieved by Rueda, which guarantees it to continue governing in the most classic feud, has been the bad result of the PSOE, sources from the popular leadership emphasize. It is the first consultation after the July elections, and with the amnesty for those involved in the process on the table, the PSOE has suffered “a good overturning” which, in the opinion of the people, demonstrates the contrary opinion of the citizens to the agreements with independence, and pardoning former president Carles Puigdemont.

For this reason, the PP consider that now not only will no one be able to question Feijóo’s leadership again, but doubts will arise about the leadership of Pedro Sánchez, whom the popular people will ask – now with more arguments – to rectify. The intention of the Popular Party is to abandon the pretense of amnestying Puigdemont and to correct its course and break with independence. In fact, they stand out in the PP, in addition to the poor result of the Socialists, it must be taken into account that the PSOE government partner, Sumar, has not obtained representation, despite the fact that Yolanda Díaz is Galician.

In this way, the PP recovered from the trance of the general elections, in which, despite winning, it was unable to govern. The message that the PP has stood as an alternative to the Government of Pedro Sánchez has given results and the popular people add a new triumph to those obtained by the PP in Andalusia or in Madrid, in the municipal and regional or general elections, despite the fact that Feijóo did not was able to rule.

At the appearance before the press, the general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, considered that the PSOE should do “a deep reflection” of what has happened, because it is experiencing the consequence of “having abandoned its principles, its acronyms and his candidate”.

It was the first time that the citizens had been able to express themselves, “and the PSOE has obtained the worst result in its history”, remarked the number two of the PP, not to mention its partner, Sumar “who has remained extra-parliamentary “. Gamarra emphasizes that both Galicia and Spain played a lot and that the Galicians have chosen “bridges, stability and union”. Alfonso Rueda, for his part, assured that Galicia has sent a message to Spain: “We don’t want blackmail here. We do not want privileges, neither for ourselves nor for others. We want equality, understanding and responsibility, dignity,” he said.
