Feijóo leans towards Cuca Gamarra as a candidate to preside over Congress

The general secretary of the PP and until now spokesperson for the Popular Group in Congress, Cuca Gamarra could be the candidate chosen by Alberto Núñez Feijóo to preside over Congress, according to rumors that are circulating throughout today among popular deputies.

PP sources assure that Gamarra’s candidacy cannot be confirmed and that it will be at six in the afternoon, when Alberto Núñez Feijóo has summoned all the deputies, when the names are known. Until then, the sources consulted say “everything can change.”

The choice of Cuca Gamarra was due, according to the sources consulted, to his great knowledge of the Regulations of Congress, after more than three years serving as spokesperson, at a time when the presence of the pro-independence parties could make necessary a figure who has the resources to oppose or control the wishes of minorities.

It would also play in his favor that as a spokesman he has a very good relationship with various groups, such as the PNV or the Canary Islands Coalition, and that could help Feijóo achieve more sympathy to preside over Congress than the socialist candidate, Francina Armengol.

If she is not elected president, it remains to be seen if Feijóo would keep her to occupy the vice presidency, also with the argument of her knowledge of the regulations, or if the president of the PP chooses to keep Carmen Navarro in the vice presidency, whom he appointed to this position a few months ago, and whose name has also been raised to preside over the Chamber.

Cuca Gamarra seemed called to be the vice president of a Feijóo government, since since the popular leader became president of the PP, he has trusted her, first as her voice in Congress, as spokesperson, and later as secretary party general. Of her, Núñez Feijóo highlights her seriousness and her ability to work, which if the rumors about her were confirmed would have led her to occupy the position of greatest political responsibility that the PP will have.
