Alberto Núñez Feijóo has contacted Pedro Sánchez to offer him a two-way meeting “with the purpose of establishing a responsible dialogue, for the benefit of the political and institutional stability of Spain, the confidence that our country must inspire and the most effective response to the uncertainties and challenges we face.
“Throughout our entire democratic history, it has always been recognized that the political force that wins in general elections is the one that should govern,” argued the national leader of the Popular Party in a letter sent this Sunday to the Prime Minister.
Reinforced by the extra seat obtained thanks to the recount of the foreign vote, Feijóo argues that “Spain does not deserve an ungovernable situation” while warning that “we cannot afford a blockade at such a relevant moment for our economy and our institutions, in full Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union”.
“With the desire to give continuity to the precedents of political alternation”, Feijóo stresses on several occasions that the PP has been the force with the most votes on 23-J and summons Sánchez to meet this week in order to exchange each one their respective positions before the new political scenario emanating from the polls.
Feijóo’s letter was released shortly after the PSOE decided to demand the review of the 30,300 null votes after the narrow margin that separated the PP and the PSOE from the last seat in Madrid.
Those 1,323 votes difference justify, according to sources from the Madrid leadership, the opening and review of all the ballot envelopes where the null votes must be recorded after the overturn on Friday night by which the former UPN deputy Carlos García Adanero he had won a seat in Madrid by subtracting it from the former socialist mayor of Alcalá de Henares Javier Palacios.
The PSOE recalls that this request has recent precedents in this same province of Madrid in the recent municipal elections, and precisely at the request of the PP in the scrutiny of the municipality of Alcorcón, where the Madrid Zone Electoral Board, applying the criteria of the Board Central Electoral, granted his request for review of all the null vote recorded.
“The existence of precedents for greater abundance, and precisely, in relation to the criterion of transcendence, this Board must consider that this petition not only has transcendence at the level of provincial scrutiny, but also with respect to the correlation of political forces in Congress of the Deputies”, the text affects, which claims said review to “guarantee that the final result corresponds to the authentic will of the people as a result of the polls”.
