With the Government control session about to end, a meeting of the Sumar parliamentary group was called for yesterday afternoon. These types of meetings are common, but this one, specifically, had not been scheduled as far in advance as others. And the confederal space had just suffered a marked setback in Galicia. But after the reproaches repeated in various gatherings for Yolanda Díaz’s silence on the matter, the second vice president came to silence all the criticism. Both external and internal: “The Sumar project is more necessary than ever.”

The Minister of Labor also admitted that her party “has not done things well” in Galicia, but rejected that the poor results – she suffered such a reversal that she fell below 2% of the votes cast – affect the deployment of her political project. : “More than ever, Sumar and organization are needed,” he insisted.

Díaz, who until then had only spoken about the Galician elections through the social network ‘X’, did not shy away from the debate this time and stressed that the left has not only failed to meet that expectation but that the PP has experienced a growth in terms of absolute votes. “Which indicates that we have not done things well collectively and the results of Sumar, in Galicia in this case, are not good.”

However, Díaz appealed to look ahead to consolidate the deployment of Sumar, which, on March 23, will hold a founding assembly that is still pending despite entering the Government and having up to five ministers. A clear message with which to quell the unrest installed since 18F in the group of coalition forces due to the lack of self-criticism and capacity for maneuver after a strategy, the Galician one, proven to be erroneous.

And regarding the criticism for her silence of almost 72 hours, the vice president justified herself by pointing out that she had no intervention in the morning plenary session, which she did not attend. “We will have to ask the PP why it no longer asks me (…) “The last one was asked to me by the PNV and, therefore, when I am not asked I do not attend. I think the reason has to do with the economic and labor data of this country,” she said ironically, slipping that the next unemployment data will be positive.

Regarding how they face the next elections in Euskadi, Díaz has indicated that his colleagues in this community are already working on these elections and that they do not interfere from Madrid. Precisely, the Basque deputy for this formation in Congress, Lander Martínez, has stated that Sumar and Podemos Euskadi have “confirmed” the impossibility of going together to the next elections to the Basque Parliament.

What’s more, he added that it has become “clear that Podemos chose another path a long time ago and that there is neither option nor confidence to create a political coalition”, which is why he considers the possibility of a coalition for the purple formation closed.
