Correos will hire more staff to cover the increase in voting demand

Correos announced on Wednesday that it will make an “unprecedented” recruitment to guarantee the vote by mail and will announce the exact number on June 9, the deadline for the company’s professionals to communicate the holidays. In addition, it will strengthen the service in tourist areas and does not rule out postmen making electoral parcels at the weekend.

As reported by Correos, in this way, 100% coverage of staff vacations during the month of July will be guaranteed to ensure that citizens can exercise their right to vote by mail.

From July 3rd, the date on which Correos will start sending the documentation to voters who have requested to vote by mail, the postal company will make adjustments to the usual opening hours of the offices, by extending the hours with extraordinary openings on days not working

In addition, as of July 3, Correos has announced that, if necessary, postmen will also deliver parcels associated with the electoral processes at the weekend and the service will be strengthened at all logistics centers.

In this context, Correos has requested the Central Electoral Board to extend the deadline for depositing the vote by mail until July 20, one more day, as happened in the previous electoral process, so that citizens can have more time to apply.

Citizens who wish to use this type of suffrage can now apply online or at any Post Office of Spain office.

Correos will deliver the applications received to the Provincial Delegations of the Electoral Census Office, which will send the applicants, from July 3rd, the necessary documentation to vote at the address they indicate.

In addition, Correos will apply the protocol of preventive measures foreseen in case of risk of high temperatures during the summer season. The protocol establishes that the distribution units of the geographical areas affected by weather warnings of orange and red risk due to high temperatures according to the Aemet warning map will apply, for those specific days, the following organizational measures: the staff on the morning shift will not do home delivery tasks beyond 1 pm and, on the afternoon shift, home delivery tasks will not start until 5 pm.

On the other hand, Correos will set up a committee to monitor the elections that will include the participation of all trade unions.
