“Nadia or no one”, raises the leadership of the PSOE as the first electoral slogan of this pre-campaign of 23-J. Pedro Sánchez himself advanced this framework of contrast, in which he wants to trap Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in the socialist federal committee, after of wielding the figure and management of its economic vice-president, Nadia Calviño, in front of a Popular Party that, in his opinion, “does not have an economic alternative”, nor does it have a powerful profile in the team that, at least now for now, he can face it face to face. “We have a plan and they have nothing. We have Nadia, and they have no one”, warned Sánchez.

The president considers that Feijóo has a problem on his economic flank, for which he wants to attack to take the initiative and set the agenda, and for this reason he will give a lot of prominence to Calviño – despite the fact that he did not join his electoral lists – in this campaign Starting today.

Today in Ferraz, Sánchez will preside over a meeting with the coordinators of the PSOE’s electoral program for 23-J, and right after that it will be the economic vice-president who will appear to announce the main lines of her economic project. “We will put a lot of weight on the economy, as opposed to a Feijóo without a team and without proposals. With four sentences made, he cannot hold the whole campaign”, warn the socialist strategists.

State economist and senior official of the European institutions until Sánchez signed her as Minister of Economy in 2018, Calviño (A Coruña, 1968) is a newcomer from New York, where she received the medal of the Foreign Policy Association and he gave several interviews, on CNN and Bloomberg, to highlight the strength of the Spanish economy and its role on the European and international scene. Just the opposite of what Feijóo was doing at the same time, who at the South Summit in Madrid warned international investors that the Spanish economy is “in decline and stagnant”, as the central government denounced in a blog.

“The Spanish economy is not only doing well, it is also going like a motorbike. It’s not stagnant, as Feijóo says, I don’t know if it’s because of ignorance or bad faith. The Spanish economy is growing well above the European average and, for the first time in decades, on a robust and fair basis”, replied Sánchez, in line with the data provided by Calviño and ratified by international bodies, such as the ECB , the IMF or the OECD. Above all, with the growth forecast of 2.1% this 2023. The same one that the Spanish Government used to draw up the latest State budgets, which the PP described as “unrealistic”. “The only thing unreal and phantasmagoric is the economic alternative of the PP”, concluded Sánchez.

The president will further push Calviño, to focus the campaign on management. And he will do the same with the third vice-president, Teresa Ribera – his electoral ticket for Madrid -, for the climate emergency at the center, or with the minister José Luis Escrivá, to roll out his electoral program.

They will all be at Ferraz’s appointment today, with the head of the Treasury and deputy general secretary of the PSOE, María Jesús Montero, and the Minister of the Presidency, Félix.

Sánchez is simultaneously designing a different electoral campaign, according to his team: “Less rallies, but very powerful”. To concentrate efforts. With a lot of economy and a lot of management.
