Biden signs spending bill which includes $13.6 billion for Ukraine aid

After the Senate passed the legislation late Thursday night, by a 68-31 margin, the president signed it Friday. Bipartisan support was given to the financial assistance for Ukraine that includes humanitarian assistance of several billion dollars.

The President signed the bill Friday, preventing a partial shutdown of government that would have otherwise occurred at midnight Friday.

This weekend, Mr. Biden will be in Camp David to monitor the war in Ukraine.

Friday morning’s announcement by the President was that the G7 countries and the U.S. were revoking Russia’s favored country status. This allows them to impose tariffs on Russia and hinders its trade with many other economies. The U.S. also blocks Russian imports of vodka, seafood, and diamonds. The U.S. also prohibited imports of Russian oil and gas .
The legislation contains $730 billion in nondefense spending. This is a 6.7% increase on fiscal year 2021. Senator Patrick Leahy (Democratic Senator) said that this was the “largest increase” in four years. The legislation also includes $782 billion in defense spending. This is a 5.6% increase on last year.
