A little less than two months ago, Netflix premiered the third and final season of Valeria, the series that adapts the novels of Elisabet Benavent and which has as protagonists four friends who live in Madrid. The plots of this romantic comedy were closed on Friday 28, but the platform premieres, to the joy of Benavent’s followers, another fiction based on a novel of his: Un cuento perfecto.
Anna Castillo and Álvaro Mel are the protagonists of this new series in which she is Margot, the heir to an important hotel empire, and he is David, who subsists on three jobs and sleeping on his best friends’ couch. Their paths will cross and they will discover that they have more in common than they believe in a love story between success and doubt that this time unfolds in Greece.
Un cuento perfecto is a very special story for Benavent, says the author, “because it talks about the weight of expectations, how we often punish ourselves in different ways by wanting to meet everyone’s expectations”.
In this story “two characters with a sad look come together who recognize each other in a crowded place because they both have the same look and the same effect caused by very different causes: he is a boy who has nothing and who moreover, she doesn’t want to tie herself to anything because she’s afraid of disappointing, while she has everything and on her shoulders rests the weight of never fulfilling the expectations neither as a mother nor at work, not even of her partner”. continues the Valencian writer.
“They are two people who meet not to fill each other’s lives, but to walk side by side and help the other feel capable”, continues Benavent, who defines this series as “a love story in which you start with a friendship of companionship and help, and both will end up falling in love”.
“It’s also a fun novel because it’s basically a wonderful trip to Greece in the middle of summer,” he explains. For some particular reason did you set it in Greece? “It just so happened that I just started writing it a little before I left and I continued when I came back. It was very fresh. For me it is very important to write about places I know and at that time the smells, colors and sounds were very recent and it came out in a very organic and natural way”.
Benavent feels very satisfied with the “new life” of her characters when her novels are adapted for the small screen. “For an author this is a hug because you see that your protagonists continue to grow and that they are by your side and continue to walk by your side.”
Audiovisual projects such as Valeria and Un cuento perfecto “it is undeniable that they open the doors to a lot of new readers and also to new countries where we have not been”, says the author, who is delighted that Valeria will soon have translations in languages ??such as now Portuguese, French, Italian or English.
