Belarra and Montero take control of Podemos without surprises in the primaries

Podemos announced yesterday the result of the different primary processes held in the last few days, in which the National Executive achieved two important victories to consolidate a leadership questioned by the critical sectors of the party after the drop-off caused by the regional and local elections of 2023, as well as the subsequent departure of the Central Government.

In one fell swoop, the former Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, was ratified as head of the list for the European elections, while the official candidates proposed by the Secretary General, Ione Belarra, won in all the autonomies where the directions Including Catalonia and Asturias, the places where the results were tighter.

Montero, absent from the conclave due to a work trip to Colombia, obtained the support of 84.8% of the 36,054 registered voters who took part in the vote for a challenge for which he promised to give his skin: “Europe and Spain need a political force with the desire to change everything that needs to be changed”, he pointed out through the X social network.

This is an electoral appointment that the purple party has given great significance, since, since the territory of Spain is considered as a single constituency, they believe that it will serve to measure their strength with those of Sumar after the bankruptcy electoral coalition promoted for the 23-J.

Regarding the election of the new regional coordinators, Isa Serra will be the regional leader in Madrid; María Teresa Pérez, in the Valencian Community; Lluïa Moñiz, in the Balearic Islands, and Javier Sánchez Serna, in Murcia.

Marta de Santos was also proclaimed autonomous coordinator of Aragon, the representative in the regional Parliament, and in Asturias, a territory mired in internal crisis for some time, officialist Diego Ruiz de la Peña has won the critical sector.

In Catalonia, the candidacy “With Everything and For All, We Can. Yes, you can!” of the current coordinator, Conchi Abellán, prevailed in the “With militancy We Can” candidacy, led by María Pozuelo.
