It looks like Romero (Nestor Carbonell) is breaking out of prison in next week’s episode of “Bates Motel.”
According to the synopsis for Season 5, episode 3, Romero starts to make his move. While the episode summary doesn’t specify what this move is, the preview clip for the installment shows the former White Pine Bay sheriff out in the woods, which implies that he manages to get out of jail.
In Season 5, episode 2, Romero got into a fight with a fellow inmate right after he got a surprise visit from Norman (Freddie Highmore). It seems, however, that getting himself beat up was part of his plan to break out of prison and eventually avenge the death of Norma (Vera Farmiga).
“Given what happened, I can go to circuit judge and effectively argue that your life is in jeopardy in here and that it was punitive to ever put you in a medium-security prison based on a perjury charge. I should be able to get you to a work farm,” Romero’s lawyer told him in the episode.
“Well, I’d loved to be moved,” Romero replied. “When I came here, I was so devastated about losing my wife, I didn’t care. But now I need to stay alive and well. I have a responsibility to take care of the son that she left behind. So yeah, I’d like to be transferred.”
While it remains to be seen whether Romero will indeed escape prison, one scenario that could happen is Romero running away from the authorities as he is being transferred to the said work farm.
Elsewhere in the upcoming episode, Norman helps Chick (Ryan Hurst) with a project, and Madeleine (Isabelle McNally) reaches out to the motel owner.
“Bates Motel” Season 5, episode 3, titled “Bad Blood,” airs on Monday, March 6 at 10 p.m. EST on A&E.
