“These people, these who we say bomb them, have awakened a new feeling.” This is what Xavier Trias has warned. And he remembered, right after, that his philosophy has always been non-confrontation and dialogue, to retort: ??”But when you find yourself in front of people who want confrontation and who don’t want dialogue, we have to get them off their ass once and for all “. Again, a moderate sees that it is the unionist theorists who divide the most and who encourage many Catalans to confront (if possible, intelligently).
This is the great inconsistency and the great mistake of the socialists with the Collboni operation in Barcelona. A maneuver that belies his rhetoric of moderation and the will to break with the blocs, with a desperate agreement for power, which everyone has seen unites (without a program) turnips with cabbages. In other words, people who until literally two days ago were called “ultra-right” (Sánchez calls the PP that way, and Vox, “ultra-ultra-right”) or “dangerous communists”, in the case of the PP to the commons, who now they have turned the plug on the municipal government, again with the socialists.
This is a mistake with serious consequences. Myopic irresponsibility. In general, due to the erosion of the image of politics. Trias’ “let them all be bombed” is what many people find politicians think of the electorate. They perceive (and feel) that they do not stop when it comes to doing what suits them, once they have been voted. Then, when the citizens do not vote, disillusioned, they still call them irresponsible, when they are the most irresponsible. But the operation, apart from being an error in terms of democratic health, is also an error on two more specific fronts.
In Catalan terms, it is an invitation to return to the blogs, with conciliatory theorists (socialists and commoners). From the PP, this rhetoric is already known. And the pro-independence parties could practice it with respect to the authors of 155, but by the way of events they had already skipped all the sanitary cordons with the PSC, for convenience. Now, on the other hand, independence cannot make you not see what has happened or reduce it to an anecdote. They have been invited back to the clash.
Finally, there is the electoral miscalculation of the socialists. In Spain they already knew that it would be difficult for their “if you don’t go, they come back” to prevail against PP and Vox. They trusted that it would help them “raze” Catalonia. But in a policy that is more and more about the generation of moods, perhaps they have not sufficiently calculated the emotional effect on important layers of the country (independenceists or not) with respect to what they have done with Xavier Trias.
They have not hesitated to displace Trias, bonhomie and pactism in person. They have considered that he could not be mayor so that he would not harm the electoral expectations in Spain. But Sánchez could end up losing Moncloa because of what he has done in Barcelona. Because, what is the message that the socialists are sending to Catalonia? A diaphanous one. The answer should be up to par. And it will only be there if sentiment moves to action at the polls.
