The 88-year-old Kamma has for months been strapped with a stofsele to his bed and wheelchair most of the hours of the day.
Both Kammas relatives and Alzheimerforeningen have several times since in the summer criticised and complained of the unworthy treatment, and stood forward in the Extra Magazine – but the Municipality of Thisted have each time rejected all accusations and has continued to extend the authorization for the fixation.

Now Ankestyrelsen determined that the municipality’s processing of Kamma is in clear conflict with the act. In the decision says, among other things:
‘It is our overall assessment of the information provided in the case, that on the present basis is the necessary professional documentation, including relevant medical documentation, that your mental impairment is significant and permanently reduced.’
‘the Conditions for the application of stofsele is thus not met. We find, therefore, that the municipality had the right to use stofsele in connection with the care and the care for you.’

Ankestyrelsen at the same time stresses that the municipality’s caregivers not in the future have the right to buckle Kamma fixed:
– We remove, therefore, the municipality’s decision on the application of the stofsele.

At Kammas relatives, there is great joy over the decision. They have, for months, powerless witnessed how Kammas everyday lives has been a disgraceful nightmare:

– I’m scared of, that it should take so long to change something that is so wrong. I had not imagined that our complaints are so slow. It is a problem for our legal certainty and a practice, I get angry on behalf of all those that come in squeeze. And had we not been so pushy, and had we not had the association (alzheimerforeningen,red.) and the media to go to, so I think that the matter would have pulled even more out.
– And what about all the elderly who do not have relatives? It may not be reasonable, that older people must be so addicted to have resourceful relatives to be cared for properly. In Kammas cases had fixation the remains until her death, had we not fought so massively to get it stopped, ” she says.
