In the T-Mobilitat project, nothing has gone well at first. It couldn’t be less than the premiere of contactless cards in their cardboard version with a chip, already available in vending machines. It coincided with a failure in the card payment system of Barcelona Metropolitan Transports (TMB) and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC). Throughout yesterday morning, the innovative tickets that are to replace the cardboard ones with a magnetic strip could only be bought with cash. In Rodalies, on the other hand, the payment system worked without problems.
This problem further complicated the surprise for many users who wanted to buy a T-Usual or T-Casual at the machines and saw that the usual tickets were no longer being sold. The informants patiently explained that to obtain the T-Mobility in its cardboard version you have to pay 50 cents and then you don’t have to throw it away, since you can top it up as many times as you want. They also indicated that it should not be inserted into any slot, but only brought close to the magnetic surface of the lathes.
The mishap of the machines is in addition to the technical incident on Monday on the central server that hosts T-Mobilitat, which prevented the processing of new registrations of the plastic card and the purchase of titles through the application throughout the day. In addition, those who chose to switch to the plastic card – personalized and for 4.5 euros – found themselves in dissuasive queues at the attention points of public transport operators.
