Nearly 8.9 million unique viewers (specifically 8.86 million) watched, at least one minute, of the television programs that were broadcast on Tuesday, March 21, the first day of the debate on the motion of censure presented by Vox against the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, according to data provided to Europa Press from Barlovento Comunicación.
These figures exceed by 3.25 million people the accumulated unique viewers who watched on television the first day of the previous motion of censure, which took place in October 2020 against the Executive chaired by Pedro Sánchez, also presented by Vox.
Specifically, on that first day -which took place on October 21- there were 5.61 million viewers while the second (on October 22) brought together 4.04 million viewers.
The day of the motion of censure that has managed to gather the most accumulated unique viewers to date is that of May 31, 2018 against the government of Mariano Rajoy, with 15.38 million; followed by that of June 1, 2018 with 11.61. Rajoy became the first president of the democracy to lose power due to a vote of no confidence that, on that occasion, was at the initiative of the PSOE, with Pedro Sánchez as candidate.
The 2017 motion of no confidence -also against Rajoy, with Pablo Iglesias leading Podemos as a candidate- brought together 7.39 and 6.19 million viewers in the debates that took place on June 13 and 14, respectively.
On March 21 and 22, 2023, the sixth motion of censure carried out in democracy took place, rejected this Wednesday by the Plenary of Congress. The motion of no confidence has been presented by Vox with the independent economist Ramón Tamames as a candidate for Prime Minister. After a day and a half of debates, the initiative has gained the support of the ex-deputy with no support and has only achieved the abstention of the PP, which in the first motion of Santiago Abascal voted against.
