A teenager lost his life yesterday after jumping into the Tres Salts del Llobregat gorge, in the municipality of Sant Fruitós de Bages (Bages), and not being able to get out of the water.

The Generalitat Fire Department received a report that a person had jumped into the water, but had not come out, at 11:20 a.m. Nine teams with a total of 20 officers were dispatched to the scene. Once at the Salts del Llobregat, and since a strong current of water was coming down, the Firefighters undertook an intensive search with divers from the underwater GRAE, in a place where there was up to five meters of depth. Likewise, they also proceeded to trace the surface area of ??the sheet of water with, the Fire Department indicated yesterday in a statement.

At 12:30 p.m., the rescue team was able to locate the teenager’s body. They tried to perform resuscitation maneuvers, but unfortunately nothing could be done to save his life.

The Emergency Medical Service (EMS), which dispatched three units, activated a team of psychologists to assist friends and family. The Firefighters’ medical emergency group also did the same to psychologically care for the professionals who had worked in the rescue.

Among the equipment moved to the Tres Salts del Llobregat were two command vehicles, two lighters, a rescue van and another for underwater rescue, two fire engines and a helicopter.

Likewise, the Mossos d’Esquadra sent three units to the scene and opened an investigation to clarify what had happened.

The Sant Fruitós de Bages City Council called for a minute of silence at 8 p.m. yesterday as a show of condolence to the family. The minor was in the fourth year of ESO at the Gerbert d’Aurillac high school in the town and played for FC Fruitosenc, the Consistory reported in a statement.

They also announced yesterday that the Sant electronic music festival scheduled for today, Saturday, has been postponed.
