Little Ajax, five years old, was stabbed in his sleep, with no chance of escape. The alleged perpetrator of the stabbings that ended his life was his father, a 27-year-old man, who also wounded the boy’s 29-year-old mother, who is in critical but stable condition with a reserved prognosis at Trueta hospital in Girona. The couple was in the process of separating, according to neighborhood sources.

The facts, which if confirmed as a new case of vicarious violence, would increase the number of victims (not counting this case, four minors have been killed by their fathers or their mothers’ partners since the beginning of the year, figure which rises to 54 since they began to be counted in 2013), they went to Bellcaire d’Empordà (Baix Empordà), a small town of just over 730 inhabitants where everyone knows that yesterday he woke up dismayed and that has decreed three days of mourning.

The alleged assailant, who had not slept at home, showed up at the family home after jumping the fence at dawn to attack the boy in his room. He also seriously injured his mother, with whom he had been living for six or seven years, first in Torroella de Montgrí and for the last four years in a house on Calle Ter Vell in Bellcaire d’Empordà, where the events took place. The badly injured woman went to ask some neighbors for help and they called 112. The emergency services were unable to do anything to save the child’s life.

When he fled, the alleged assailant left several traces of blood, presumably from the bladed weapon he used to commit the crime. Six hours later, around eleven in the morning, he was arrested about 3 kilometers from the scene, while he was walking down a central street in the neighboring municipality of Albons. He did not put up any resistance and they took him to the Mossos d’Esquadra de la Bisbal d’Empordà police station. During the search, the officers found the razor with which he would have committed the crime. Yesterday afternoon he went back to the home to participate in the reconstruction of the events.

There were no previous complaints between the couple, as the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia confirmed yesterday, but two years ago the man broke objects in the house during a violent argument. The incident prompted the Mossos victim care group to carry out a risk analysis and follow-up on the woman, which lasted several months.

Several friends of the victim, who went to the house yesterday to leave roses and souvenirs at the doors of the property, explained that the young woman was “tired” of her partner and that she had verbalized several times her desire to end the relationship. A decision that the woman could have made in the last few hours. The family was still seen together on Sunday.

Another neighbor close to the family unit explained that the alleged assailant was not violent and cared about her son, despite the fact that he had drug addiction problems.
