The National Police keeps the investigation into the terrorist attack against Alejo Vidal-Quadras under wraps. There are orders not to allow even the slightest leak of information so as not to jeopardize the most complex investigations that the General Information Commissioner has faced in years. The investigators, in coordination with the National Court, which keeps the proceedings secret, are confident of naming the X that ordered the assassination of the former leader of the PP in Catalonia, despite the fact that they are aware that the inquiries may end in a dead end.

After several months without any progress being made known in the investigation, the National Police published on Tuesday on social networks that a woman had been arrested in the Netherlands for involvement in the plan to end the life of Vidal-Quadras . In the puzzle of the investigation – in which hitmen are mixed with criminals soaked in oil and meticulous previous preparations with improvised tricks -, this arrest may be key if it is possible to prove his links with the Mocro Maffia, one of the criminal organizations most dangerous in Europe.

The Dutch woman arrested

He financed and prepared the attack

The police in the Netherlands arrested this woman on April 26, although the arrest did not take place until four days later. Just a few days earlier, on April 22, the National Court issued a European Arrest and Surrender Warrant (OEDE). They didn’t have to look for her, the information station had located her. They got there on the trail of the money that those involved in the plot used to finance the attack: from the purchase of the motorbike on which the person who shot the politician in broad daylight to the payments to the establishments where they stayed while they carried out surveillance near the home.

The National Court hopes that the handover of the arrested person to judge Francisco de Jorge will be quick, although they do not dare to specify deadlines. The nature of the OEDE, precisely, is to speed up the extradition of criminals between the countries hosted by the mechanism, which should contrast with the extradition – pending since January – of Greg Oliver Higuera Marcano, known as Maquia, which he ordered the purchase of the large displacement motorcycle. On top of it was a red alert from Interpol for terrorism, which popped up when he tried to cross into Colombia irregularly from Venezuela, where he is a native. There isn’t much urgency either, as investigators downplay the impact the statement may have on the investigation. Nothing to do with the light that the Dutch woman can give.

The connection with the Mocro Mafia

A violent criminal taken

According to police sources, it is about proving the alleged links that the last arrested has with the Mocro Mafia, the criminal network that has endangered the State in the Netherlands with death threats to the heir to the throne and the prime minister of the country. This mafia, made up of Maghreb criminals specializing in drug trafficking, has grabbed headlines in recent weeks after it became known that one of the leaders, arrested by the National Police, has fled Spain.

The arrested woman is said to be related to the brother of the hitman who smashed the jaw of one of the founders of Vox in broad daylight. The hypothesis that the Mocro Mafia was involved in the assassination attempt – which, if confirmed, would be the first crime committed in Spain by the organization – has gained more strength after the arrest in the Netherlands, despite the fact that police sources they insist that it is not the only line of inquiry.

The Iranian track, in effect

She is not the only one on the table

On the morning of November 9, almost a few hours after the agreement between PSOE and Junts for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez had been announced, all the alarms in the Ministry of the Interior did not go off for fear that the assassination attempt on a historic conservative leader raised spirits in the streets. This story barely took off because it was Vidal-Quadras himself who targeted the Iranian regime. The relations that the politician has maintained for years with the opposition to the Ayatollahs would, in his opinion, be the motive for the attack. He confirmed it in the street, before even arriving at the hospital.

Several police sources acknowledged hours after the attack that Vidal-Quadras’ accusation was strange to them, which did not leave even the slightest room for doubt. “When you don’t want them to investigate in one direction, you categorically point out the opposite”, explained the same sources.

In fact, as the weeks passed, murky questions of an economic nature flew over the investigation in which Vidal-Quadras could be involved, who admitted that the Iranian resistance financed with almost a million euros the first steps of the match of Santiago Abascal.

Without discarding the above, the approach to the Mocro Mafia after the latest arrest narrows the Iranian track. Police sources rule out that the Mocro Mafia had no interest in ending Vidal-Quadras’ life; which would be, in any case, an assignment. That is, they were allegedly paid to carry out the planning and execution of the plan.

The hitman fled after the shooting

The most precious prey

The hitman Ayari is the most valuable prey that the National Police wants to get. Researchers believe it may hold the keys to unlocking the mystery. He is one of the two identified who have not yet been arrested. Ayari, 37 years old, recognized the Madrid area of ??Núñez de Balboa days before the event. In the days before, he did not take as many precautions as on the day of the attack, when he was wearing a hood. The surveillance cameras of nearby businesses were used to identify him. However, by then he had already fled Spain, according to all suspicions. After shooting at Vidal-Quadras, he fled on a motorbike to Fuenlabrada, near where he burned her and they lost track of him.

Police intelligence, thanks to collaboration with third countries, has evidence that the Mocro Mafia had – before the attack on the Spanish politician – the services of Ayari, a Frenchman of Tunisian origin. Police sources place him as the murderer of a confidant that the French Police had in the Mocro Mafia clan called Àngels de la , to which his brother would belong; the same one that the National Police is trying to link with the person arrested in the Netherlands. It is not known what position the hitman’s brother occupies in the current hierarchy of the criminal organization.

The bloodthirsty clan, which according to police estimates could move large quantities of tons of cocaine to Europe, was led by Ridwan Tagi, who was sentenced to life in prison in February. In the background, several murders and many assignments. The chronicles of his arrest in 2019 record the protection the mobster received in Dubai thanks to the Government of Iran.
