Another unmanned fighter jet had to be shot down over Moscow yesterday before it could cause any damage. It is the third day in a row that Ukrainian drones have targeted the Russian capital, despite Russian air defenses intercepting previous drones before they reached the city.
As a result of the presence of the device, the Russian authorities decreed the temporary closure of two airports, the one in Vnukovo, southwest of Moscow, and the one in the bordering region of Kaluga, 150 kilometers from the capital of Russia
Before Russian authorities confirmed the removal of the threat, local residents of the Yoroxiovo-Mniovniki district, northwest of Moscow, heard an explosion, local media reported.
“The remains (of the device) have fallen in the area of ??the Karámishev pier, no one has been injured, “there is no serious damage”, wrote the mayor of the city, Sergey Sobianin, on Telegram. Remains of the drone were found near a hospital.
The drone “was suppressed by means of electronic warfare and crashed in a forest west of the city of Moscow,” the Ministry of Defense said. This ministry held Ukraine responsible for the attack, described as “terrorist”, against whom Russia launched its army in February 2022 in what the Kremlin calls a “special military operation”.
Sobianin assured that only one drone was involved in Friday’s attack. The previous two days the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of two drones each day, which were headed towards Moscow.
On Thursday, Russia also claimed to have eliminated 13 drones that Ukraine had launched against Sevastopol, the largest city on the annexed Crimean peninsula and home to the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Ukraine does not usually comment on or acknowledge attacks carried out on Russian territory.
Similarly, Russia avoids commenting on the consequences of its airstrikes against Ukrainian cities, saying it does not attack civilian targets.
The Ukrainian authorities reported yesterday Russian bombings of several cities, including Kyiv. A children’s hospital was attacked, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, said on his Telegram account.
The city’s military administration explained that the air defense systems responded well to the attacks. But during the Russian attacks Ukrainian authorities reported a total of 4 dead and 41 injured in various places in the country.
Kyiv assured that since Thursday night Russia has attacked nine regions, of which Zaporizhzhya has been the most affected.
