5 wounded in city shootings

Five people were wounded in attacks from Monday afternoon to early Tuesday in Chicago, police said. 

A 40-year-old man was seriously wounded just after 3 a.m. in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood, police said. He was walking in the 3100 block of North Kilbourn Avenue when the shooter got out of a vehicle and opened fire, striking him on his side. He was taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. 

In the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side, a cab driver was shot during a robbery about 1:10 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Indiana Avenue, police said. The driver, a 49-year-old man, was picking up a person when the passenger announced a robbery and pulled out a gun. The driver grabbed the gun and at some point was shot in the finger. The robber took off in the car after the driver got out. He was taken in good condition to the University of Chicago Medicine. 

About 6:15 p.m. Monday, two men were shot in the 2900 block of West Fulton Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, according to police. One, age 33, was shot in the pelvis and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, while the second, age 37, was shot in the armpit and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. They were in a parked vehicle when someone outside the vehicle shot them, with the driver of the parked car putting the vehicle into reverse in an apparent attempt to escape the shooting, and hitting another parked car in the process. 

Earlier Monday, a man was in critical condition after being shot in the Longwood Manor neighborhood, authorities said. The 30-year-old man was shot in the face and neck about 1 p.m. in the 9500 block of South Bishop Street, according to a police media notification. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

The attack was the first shooting of the day Monday and came more than 18 hours after the previous shooting.

The man was at least the 514th shooting victim of the year, according to data kept by the Tribune. There have been 103 homicides in the same time frame, also according to Tribune data.
