Three people, a woman who had just given birth and a couple, have been arrested this Tuesday by the National Police for their alleged involvement in a case of surrogate motherhood, illegal in Spain, at the Don Benito-Villanueva regional hospital (Badajoz). . The hospital center was the one that notified after realizing that the data of the parturient did not match her appearance. A few days ago, in a similar case, four people were arrested for trying to sell a newborn at the Virgen del Rocío maternal and child hospital.

One of the three detainees is the mother, a 28-year-old woman, who gave birth to a baby last morning and who is in police custody.

Another 43-year-old woman and her partner, a 42-year-old man, have also been arrested. The detainees are charged with the crimes of supposing childbirth and alteration of paternity, identity theft and document falsification. It was the hospital itself that alerted when it realized that the data in the woman’s documents did not match her appearance, but rather those of the other 43-year-old woman.

The National Police continues to investigate the case to settle responsibilities, since this type of act is not allowed by Spanish law. Both the baby and the mother, who is in police custody at the hospital, are doing well.

It is not the first case of supposed surrogate pregnancy that has been registered in Spain recently. Last week the Police arrested four people in Seville, at the Virgen del Rocío Maternal and Child Hospital, for their alleged participation in the sale of a newborn and whom they accused of the crimes of illegal trafficking for the purchase of the baby and false documentary . The four detainees had planned that once this woman gave birth to the newborn, she would be given to a couple who could not have children in exchange for a high economic consideration.
