The Clínic hospital will recover 100% of the scheduled surgeries today and the external consultations will reach 50% activity, while the system recovery tasks continue after the cyberattack last Sunday.

The Mossos d’Esquadra and the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia are continuing their investigations into this ransomware-type cyberattack, which is why the hackers usually ask for a payment to rescue the encrypted information, but which the Generalitat has assured that it will not carry out.

According to the latest update from the Clínic, for today, Thursday, outpatient activity will gradually increase to 50%, both in the hospital and in the CAPs it co-manages: Borrell, Casanova and Les Corts. As for scheduled surgeries, they will reach 100% at the Villarroel headquarters, the main building of the Clínic. At the Platón and Maternidad offices, low-complexity dermatological, urological and ophthalmological outpatient surgery will be performed.

It remains to complete the recovery of the extraction activity, which currently operates at 20% of its capacity, carrying out urgent tests and for day hospitals. Radiotherapy has not been recovered either, but priority oncology patients are being referred to the hospitals of Sant Pau and Vall d’Hebron.

Urgent activity and hospitalization at the center or at home, the day hospital service, radiological examinations and endoscopic tests, dialysis, outpatient rehabilitation and the pharmacy continue to function normally.

The Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia and the Hospital Clínic continue the tasks of analysis and recovery of the information systems to normalize the situation. Since March 5, a recovery plan has been implemented to minimize the chances that an incident of the same characteristics will be reproduced again under the same circumstances in the hospital. This plan includes actions to eradicate the activity of the attacker, the deployment of different technological capacities and the operational integration of the health center with the Agència de Ciberseguretat de Catalunya and its protection capacities.

With the support of 165 teams, the recovery tasks are currently focused on re-availing the basic support elements of the infrastructure and the elements that support the hospital’s most critical processes, work that could be completed “in the coming days ”, according to Clínic spokespersons.
