The Aemet warns of a storm with strong gusts of wind in four coastal provinces

The warnings for coastal phenomena put Cádiz, A Coruña, Pontevedra, La Palma and El Hierro at risk this Saturday, January 13, a day that will be marked by the presence of strong gusts of east wind in the Peninsula and from the southwest in the Canary Islands, which could reach up to 61 kilometers per hour (km/h) in areas of the Strait and create waves of up to 4 meters, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The day will be marked, on the Peninsula, by the approach and entry from the northwest of an Atlantic front associated with the storm ‘Hipólito’ that will leave an increase in cloudiness and precipitation in the northwest quadrant, more likely in Galicia and surrounding areas. more abundant in western Galicia and less likely the further east and south.

Also, low morning clouds are expected in the Strait and Melilla, depressions in the northeast and Albacete and high clouds that will enter from the south and extend in a northeasterly direction throughout the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. In the westernmost islands of the Canary Islands, cloudy skies will continue with precipitation and with cloudy intervals in the rest.

In addition, morning fogs are not ruled out in Albacete, the depressions in the northeast and the coast of Girona, as well as haze in the eastern Canary Islands.

As for the snow level and with a low probability of snowfall, it will be 1,000/1,200 meters rising to 1,800/2,000 meters in the Galaico-Leoneses mountains, 800/1,000 meters rising to 1,600/2,000 meters in the western Cantabrian mountain range and 1,600 /2,000 meters in Gredos.

On the other hand, temperatures will tend to increase generally in the Peninsula, locally notable for maximum temperatures in the mountains of the center and southeast, with few changes in the rest and very high values ??in the Canary Islands for the time of year. Thus, the frosts will lose extension in the southwest of the peninsula and intensity in the rest of the interior areas, moderate in the Pyrenees and, occasionally, in the mountains of the north and northeast.

As for the wind, it will blow east in Alborán and, with strong intervals, in the Strait, decreasing. In Ampurdán it will have a northern component, tending towards southwest, in the Mediterranean area it will also be southwest and in Galicia it will have a southern component, with some strong intervals in the western area of ??A Coruña. Meanwhile, in the Cantabrian Sea the east will predominate.

Finally, in the Canary Islands, there will likely be very strong gusts from the southwest in high areas of Tenerife and locally very strong gusts are not ruled out to the west and north of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The haze will occur in the easternmost islands, intensifying in the afternoon. Thus, the AEMET predicts waves of up to 4 meters in El Hierro and La Palma.
