Social networks become an effective alternative when it comes to finding a job

There is life beyond the resume. Now young people use social networks to highlight their personal brand and show their skills to the business world. And it seems that it is working. According to the VII Barometer DCH-Talent Management in Spain. Portugal and Latin America, TikTok is the main source of recruitment for junior profiles (97%), ahead of other channels such as Temporary Employment Agencies or other networks such as Facebook or Twitter.

“TikTok is a versatile and highly visual social network where you can showcase your personality and skills in a creative way to stand out in your job search. It also allows you to reach a much broader audience than through other platforms”, explains Elena Lavagna, consultant and trainer in digital marketing specializing in social networks.

This type of highly visual social network offers certain advantages for job seekers, since they can show their skills in a more direct way than the traditional resume allows.

“In the case of Tiktok, it offers the advantage of being able to create attractive and original videos to introduce yourself and demonstrate your skills, experience and achievements. For example, you can show your design, editing, illustration or music projects”, adds Lavagna.

Finding a job with digital media does not mean spending the day on social networks, in fact, there are many companies that find us. But for that to happen we must develop the right strategy.

The problem is that presenting yourself professionally on social networks is not such an easy task and we need to have some training. “Before starting, it is important to define your brand, who you are and what your values are, in addition to creating your visual identity. This will help you have a coherent image on all social networks”, says Lavagna.

To work our personal brand in networks, the digital marketing expert recommends a step-by-step guide of what we can do:

It is important to remember that the professional profile is an extension of our image, so it is important to take care of the details. Lavagna explains that there are some common mistakes that are often made when creating a personal brand strategy on social networks.

“We must avoid making spelling mistakes, because a profile with errors damages your professional image. You also have to avoid getting into controversial topics and posting inappropriate personal information that could damage your online reputation”, exemplifies the expert.

“Another of the errors has to do with the frequency of the content. Not regularly updating your networks with relevant content can be a problem, since an abandoned profile gives a bad image of your professional brand”, concludes Lavagna.

To improve our profile on social networks, there are many specialized courses, such as the Master in Community Management: Company 4.0 and Social Networks from the IEBS. The master prepares you to become a true specialist in the planning, design, execution and development of strategic plans in social networks.
