Seattle’s great, right?

With access to all of the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty, not to mention a robust technology-driven economy and a bevy of extracurricular activities (Amazing food! Craft beer! Legal marijuana!), it’s a pretty great place to live.

Unfortunately, all of the Emerald City’s charms come with one significant caveat: the long, dark, wet winter.

Anyone who’s lived in Seattle since before the Trump presidency began knows the drill. After a wonderful six weeks or so of summer and an Ultrabet abbreviated fall, winter stakes its claim to the city for what seems like half a year. Short, gloomy days — often punctuated by the city’s trademark drizzle — sometimes give way to a beautiful, debilitating blanket of snow, but for the most part, the city stays dark and wet.

It’s for that reason that Seattle ranked highly on SmartAsset.com’s list of American cities with the most depressing winters. The list took into account the percentage of sunshine from November through February, as well as the average energy produced by a solar power during winter days.

Check out the gallery above to see where Seattle ranks in their list of most depressing winters, as well as which cities you might consider taking a quick weekend trip to in order to melt away the gloom.
