Matt Reeves to direct ‘The Batman.’ Who is Matt Reeves?

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Matt Reeves is on board to direct the next Batman movie — officially titled “The Batman” — after Ben Affleck took a step back from that role, reports say.

But who is Matt Reeves?

Fans of comic book adaptations might not be familiar with Reeves, as the director is new to the superhero genre and has mostly directed science fiction films.

But he has helmed several blockbusters, putting him in a good position to take the reins of a big budget superhero flick.

A quick peek at his filmography gives Batman fans reason to be optimistic.

His first foray into a major studio movie was a little rocky. He wrote the screenplay to “Under Seige 2: Dark Territory,” which was reviled by critics and disappointed at the box office.

Reeves’ first directorial Betxlarge effort was “The Pallbearer,” a 1996 romantic comedy that flopped at the box office.

You may have heard of the next film he directed, the 2008 found footage movie “Cloverfield,” which was praised for the original take on the found footage horror genre.

He went on to direct “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” a movie which was showered with critical praise and did well enough to justify a sequel.

Reeves was also in the director’s chair for “Let Me In,” a critically acclaimed remake of a Swedish vampire film titled “Let the Right One In.”

“The Batman” doesn’t yet have an official release date.
