The General Directorate of Infrastructure of the Department of Transport of the Community of Madrid yesterday informed the residents of the demolition of the buildings located on Rafael Alberti Street, numbers 7 and 9, in the coming months, due to the conditions derived from the construction works. construction of line 7B of the Madrid Metro as it passes through San Fernando de Henares.
The spokesperson for the Platform for People Affected by Metro, Alejandro Escribano, explained that this has been the ‘modus operandi’ of the Community of Madrid in the last few occasions in which there have been demolitions.
The residents of Rafael Alberti number 7 were evicted in September 2022, while the residents of portal 9 were evicted in December of the same year.
“Since then, the Community of Madrid has carried out soil consolidation works that not only serve no purpose, but have generated structural damage in buildings that had not had any in the last fifteen years until the summer of 2022,” he maintained. Notary.
Furthermore, he has criticized the intention of the Community of Madrid to prop up a building located on Virgen del Templo Street, number 6, with sixty families inside – currently there are a total of 88 families evicted – because one of the adjacent properties to demolition and consolidation zones has been “weakened”.
The platform has asked the regional government that the works not be carried out until residents are offered a housing alternative while the work lasts.
This Thursday the entity has organized an emergency meeting to analyze the situation and this Friday it has called a rally to support the residents of Virgen de Templo, as well as those of Rafael Alberti, who are going to lose their homes.
Specifically, according to those affected, the General Directorate of Infrastructure has informed the residents that next January the San Fernando de Henares City Council will be requested to declare portals 3 and 4 of the Rafael Alberti building as ruins. 7.
Once this declaration is obtained and if the deadlines run normally, the homes will be demolished in the month of February or early March.
The Rafael Alberti building, 9, will also be demolished and subsequently an in-depth analysis of the historic Nazario Calonge building, 5, will be carried out to determine whether its demolition is appropriate.
The Ministry of Transport has indicated that the technicians from the General Directorate of Infrastructure have informed the residents today that the state of their homes is legal urban ruin and they are going to report this to the San Fernando de Henares City Council.
From there, the City Council has the power either to declare legal urban ruin, which entails the demolition of the building and the payment of compensation by the Community, or to reject it and have the Community rehabilitate those houses.
In a statement, the San Fernando de Henares City Council has expressed its full support for the residents affected by Metro at numbers 7 (portals 3 and 4) and 9 after learning that their homes will also be demolished.
“These families are currently evicted from their homes due to the poor execution, at the time, of Metro line 7B, with the Community of Madrid being the only administration responsible and with powers over this infrastructure,” the City Council has stressed. .
The mayor of San Fernando, Javier Corpa (PSOE), will hold a meeting, in the coming days, with the Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, whom he will once again demand maximum speed in the collection of compensation, and will ask for protection for those affected and will insist on the need to implement the Comprehensive Plan approved at the Madrid Assembly.
This document establishes a roadmap to follow, with deadlines and financial items to reach definitive solutions to this serious problem that the city has suffered for more than fifteen years.
