Ignacio Cirac, Vanguardia 'Innovation' award

Currently, one of the world leaders in quantum technology is the physicist and professor Ignacio Cirac. For this reason, the jury has awarded the Vanguardia Award for ‘Innovation’ at the gala celebration of the 142nd edition of La Vanguardia.

Born in Manresa, Cirac has been, since 2001, director of the Max Planck Institute. He has received numerous international awards and has been a candidate for the “Nobel in Physics”.

Cirac has developed a computing system based on quantum mechanics that will allow the design of much faster algorithms that will have revolutionary practical applications in the field of communication, materials design and the creation of drugs.

Today, many laboratories and research centers are investing millions of euros in building computers that follow the guidelines and parameters established by Professor Cirac.
