Dismembered body found in a suitcase under one of the historic bridges in Paris

A 35-year-old man was arrested this Sunday after a dismembered body was found last night inside a suitcase under the Austerlitz bridge in Paris, the Prosecutor’s Office reported. The man voluntarily presented himself to the police this Sunday morning and claimed to be the author of the events, after which he was placed under arrest and is awaiting interrogation, added the Prosecutor’s Office.

The discovery of the body occurred after an action by firefighters and medical services due to the fire of some garbage under the northern part of the bridge, on the right bank of the Seine, which occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday (8:00 p.m. GMT).

After putting out the fire, the rescue services found the body of a man with several missing limbs inside a suitcase, while other human remains, presumably those of the same person, were found in bags nearby.

The Paris Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into voluntary manslaughter, which is led by the criminal brigade of the Judicial Police. The identity of the victim has not yet been determined.

The Austerlitz Bridge, whose current version dates back to 1885, is located in the eastern part of the city, and connects the Botanical Garden with the area of ??Place Valhubert.
