The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a 59-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of a dozen robberies with violence and intimidation in pharmacies in Barcelona and one attempted robbery in Terrassa (Vallès Occidental). The detainee, who has already entered prison and who accumulates 48 police records, used a simulated firearm and sometimes also white weapons to intimidate the workers, according to the Catalan police.
In the city of Barcelona, ??the thief attacked a dozen pharmacies in the districts of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Eixample and Horta-Guinardó, as reported by the Mossos. To carry out these actions, he hid his face with a mask or a sweatshirt hood – which did not prevent several witnesses from later identifying him – and, after intimidating his staff, he emptied the cash register of the establishments. In total, he managed to take 9,685 euros.
The first of the robberies attributed to him was committed on July 14, 2022 in a pharmacy on Aribau street, in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district, and the next day he attempted another assault on an establishment in Terrassa, on that occasion brandishing a knife, although he ended up leaving the place empty-handed.
Between the months of July and September 2022, he robbed another three pharmacies in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district, from which he took 4,800 euros, and resumed the assaults at the beginning of this year with a new robbery in the same neighborhood.
Between the months of February and March, the alleged robber attacked five more pharmacies, until last Monday the Mossos arrested him after robbing, with a simulated firearm, another establishment in which he seized 100 euros.
After this last robbery, he went to the Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat to travel by train to Terrassa, a journey in which he was arrested before reaching the Les Planes station. When searching him, the agents found 500 euros in cash, a simulated semi-automatic pistol and the blade of a cutter.
