CLEVELAND, Ohio – Former Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts Andrea Rocco cannot run for Westlake law director, the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections ruled Friday.
The board granted protests filed by four Westlake residents who said Rocco did not meet city charter requirements for the office.
The charter requires the law director be an attorney “engaged in the active practice of law in Ohio for a period of six years next preceding his election.”
The residents said Rocco’s tenure as Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts in 2013 and 2014 disqualified her from running for office because she was not practicing law at that time.
Michael Maloney, an attorney who serves as an assistant law director in Parma , Asyabahis is now unopposed in the Nov. 7 election.
The board rejected protests in two other races.
Ward 1 candidate Brendan Delay will face council member Lynda Appel and Duane Van Dyke in the May 2 primary. Delay had claimed their petitions contained errors that resulted in not enough valid signatures.
Ward 4 councilman Michael O’Donnell, who is unopposed in November, will remain on the ballot. A protest had been filed regarding his petitions.
