Agents of the National Police in Palma have arrested a 28-year-old man for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl who had run away from a juvenile center. He is accused of an alleged crime of inducement to abandon home and another of sexual assault for having sexual relations with the girl.
The man was arrested after the Family Unit of the National Police received a complaint from the person in charge of a center for minors in Palma. The woman reported the girl missing on August 27, 2022. At that time, the police began an extensive investigation to determine what had happened to the girl.
After several months of work, the agents found the minor in perfect condition and discovered that she had been living with the detainee for a while. According to the man, he met the girl because he discovered her crying in the street by chance, since they had not previously met. The man assured the agents that he was concerned about the state of the minor and offered to help her, but he specified that he was unaware that she was only 16 years old.
The man offered her to live in his house, after the girl assured him that they were of legal age. They stayed together for several months and during that time they established an intimate relationship, with sexual relations, which means sexual abuse by the man since the girl is a minor.
The agents have evidence that the young woman ended up confessing the truth to the man, that is, that she was a minor and that she had escaped from a center. The man did not communicate this fact to the police or those responsible for child care, so the accusation of abuse weighs on him. The agents carried out numerous efforts in order to locate the minor so that she could return to the center where she was sheltered.
Since the minor is under 16 years old, the agents arrested the man last Friday as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of inducing a minor to abandon his home and sexual assault on a minor.
