21-year-old man dies after Route 80 crash in Rockaway

ROCKAWAY — A 21-year-old man died Sunday evening following a single-vehicle crash on Route 80 in Rockaway, State Police said.

Joshua Rivas, 21, of Dover, died at 9:16 p.m. in Morristown Medical Center, State Police spokesman Trooper Lawrence Peele said.

Rivas was a passenger in a Hyundai Genesis operated by Lisandro Lorenzo, 20, of Dover, Peele said.

The crash, he said, occurred at about 2:50 p.m. on the westbound side of Route 80 near mile-marker 35.7 on Sunday. Based on the preliminary investigation, the vehicle ran off the roadway on the right and struck several trees, Peele said.

Both Lorenzo, who suffered moderate injuries, and Rivas, who was seriously injured, were flown to Morristown Medical Center after the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, Peele said.
