This Saturday and Sunday, Montjuïc Park will offer cultural and leisure activities for all audiences, with activities ranging from guided itineraries through the Olympic mountain to dance shows, theater, concerts, exhibitions and open doors to the facilities.

With the incorporation of Mira Digital Arts Festival, the Casa del Rellotge civic center, the Cadena civic center or the Foment Excursionista de Barcelona, ??there will be more than 40 facilities (museums, theaters, cultural centers, civic centers and libraries) that will be part of the Viu Montjuïc 2023 programming, weaving an alliance between the different park operators and to offer cultural activities and joint actions in co-creation.

For this year’s edition, it is expected to surpass the visitor attendance of the previous edition, in which more than 60,000 people participated, and turn Montjuïc into a cultural epicenter of the city of Barcelona. This is a magnificent opportunity for Barcelona residents to learn more about this emblematic space of the city.

Foment Excursionista de Barcelona joins the party by proposing an inaugural itinerary of the “Montjuïc 360º” trail, the first trail approved by the Federation of Excursionist Organizations of Catalonia (FEEC) that runs entirely within the city of Barcelona and is part of the Plan Director of Caminos del Parque de Montjuïc prepared by Barcelona City Council.

There will be activities for all age groups. The most common will be guided itineraries, open doors to the facilities participating in the project and there will also be family activities, concerts and dance and theater shows.

As a result of the need to make citizens aware of the idiosyncrasies of all the facilities of Montjuïc, the directors of these institutions decided to carry out a joint cultural action that would serve to promote their usual programming and to promote the links and synergies between them, rebuilding the paths (physical and intangible), proposing collaborations and joining efforts, with the desire to incorporate improvements for the park and recover the spirit of the 1929 Universal Exhibition.

The initiative is born from the desire to coordinate the different cultural actors of Montjuïc and is co-organized and financed by the same facilities, by the Sants-Montjuïc district, the Barcelona Institute of Culture and the Fourth Tenancy of Economy, Finance, Economic Promotion and Tourism, which, through the tourist tax, promotes initiatives to improve leisure and enjoy a quality green and cultural public space aimed especially at the residents of Barcelona.

The project fits with the Montjuïc Park Action Plan 2019-2029, which in one of its work areas seeks to make the cultural activity of the park visible. The first edition of Viu Montjuïc was held in October 2021 with the aim of becoming an annual event and serving as a starting signal for future collaborations between mountain operators.

The first edition brought together 37,000 people. The second edition, which was held in October 2022, practically doubled the attendance, with more than 60,000 people, a figure that is expected to exceed this weekend.

The institutions promoting the festival are Anella Olímpica – BSM; CaixaForum Barcelona; House of the Press; castle of Montjuïc; Cemeteries of Barcelona; Graner, center for the creation of dance and live arts; Space Firefighters; Barcelona Olympic Foundation – BCN Olympic Museum; Joan Miró Foundation; Mies van der Rohe Foundation; Botanical Institute; Theater Institute; Botanical Garden; Historic Botanical Garden; Flower Market; Museum of Archeology of Catalonia; Ethnological and World Cultures Museum; National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC); Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA Refugio 307): Poble Espanyol; Free Theater and Theater of the Sentidos.
