Eating at work is an everyday reality for many people. There are those who can take advantage of the break to go to lunch at home or to a restaurant, but other people remain in the office at lunchtime. In these cases, practices such as batch cooking are of great help, as it consists of organizing and preparing the week’s meal over the weekend.
Many workplaces have spaces reserved for food in their facilities, with microwaves, plates, cutlery… But this does not happen in all jobs. Given the lack of microwaves, there is no reason to resign yourself to carrying a container of food that can be consumed cold or warm, such as a salad. The truth is that it is also possible to keep food warm at work with some methods that are as simple as they are effective.
Thermoses are not only used to keep drinks hot, but they also allow you to maintain the temperature of the food. For such use, it is most convenient to look for wide thermoses, which allow us to insert and remove the food more easily.
What you have to do is fill the thermos with very hot water and close it for about two or three minutes. In this way, the thermos itself gains temperature. Then, empty the water, dry it well and put your food in. This way it will stay warm for longer.
This trick works even better the fuller the thermos is with food, since this way no heat is dissipated through the surface where there is no food. Likewise, it better maintains the heat of more liquid food, such as purees, soups, stews or dishes with sauces. Another tip to make this procedure more effective is to put the food in as hot as possible, since it is inevitable that it will lose temperature as the hours go by, to ensure that it arrives hot at midday.
To make it more comfortable, you can bring a regular container or a separate plate in which to pour the food at lunch time, because depending on the size and shape of the thermos it may be difficult to enjoy it.
Another option, also very practical, are electric lunch boxes. They consist of a container that can be connected to a plug or car cigarette lighter to heat the container in a few minutes.
On the market you will find several models, with different capacities and powers. Some also incorporate compartments to separate the food and include cutlery. This alternative, although it is more expensive than the traditional thermos, ensures that you consume your food hotter than the thermos in case many hours pass between the time you prepare it and the time you sit down to enjoy it.
