Zoey, a German Shepherd and Labrador Retriever mix, was already pointing out ways from a very young age. In the first photo of her, her owners Sadie and Drew Williams noticed that she had an unusual tongue. In fact, she was sticking out of her muzzle, but they never thought that she would grow to be 5 inches.

“We thought it would surely grow, but obviously it didn’t grow as we thought. She had a huge tongue compared to her body, ”explain their owners, residents of Metairie, Louisiana, (USA).

At three years old, Zoey has become the dog with the longest tongue in the world, a mark now recognized by Guinness World Records. “She’s longer than a soda can!” celebrates this organization.

Zoey breaks the record for Bisbee, who until now was considered the dog with the longest tongue, with a measurement of 9.49 centimeters. There is more than three centimeters of difference between one and the other, as certified by the Guinness World Records.

Zoey’s tongue commands attention wherever it goes. As they walked the dog, people commented on how long she was. And they also realized with the passage of time. “Last year we took her to the vet and we measured her tongue,” they point out. She measured herself from the tip of her snout to the tip of her tongue. And there they realized that they were facing an unprecedented size.

Many don’t care: “We warned them ahead of time ‘Hey, she’s friendly but she might drool on you’ and every once in a while she will, and they’ll have a big drool mark on their black pants.”

Otherwise, she is a very normal dog. She loves being outside, fetching balls, chasing squirrels, riding in the car, and swimming in the canal. “She’ll pretty much fetch anything you throw at her and she’ll swim in any body of water that’s available,” Drew explains.
